A popular running spot in south east London with wide paths, a challenging hill and a downhill finish (depending on where you start). The park has beauty, city views and heritage and is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation with ancient oaks trees, lawns, meadows and lakes. Topped off with Brockwell Lido, an open-air swimming pool and its Grade II listed art deco building.

The Route

Brockwell-Park

The 1.6 mile route starts at the gate near Herne Hill. Depending if you want the hill at the start of the loop (go left – clockwise) or in the middle with a downhill finish (go right – anticlockwise). Follow the path around the edge of the park passing Brockwell Hall, the lakes, walled gardens, playgrounds and Lido. Then head around again, if you can manage the hill again!

Opening Times

Brockwell Park opens from 7.30am and closes 15 minutes before sunset.

Getting There – Public Transport

The closest train station is Herne Hill (served by Thameslink and southeastern trains) with is 150m or so from the park gates.

Brixton train station (served southeastern trains) and Brixton tube station (on the Victoria Line) are 0.7 miles to the north of the park.

Parking

There is a small car park at the Lido and there is parking available on nearby streets but do check the signs designating parking.

Food and Drink

The Lido cafe serves pizza, nibbles and craft beer and will be opening in the evenings in the future.

Brockwell Park Cafe is based in the Hall serving homemade meals, coffee, cake and ice-cream. Opening hours are 9am–5:30pm

There are plenty on coffee shops, pubs and eateries in Herne Hill, including the The Prince Regent and The Florence pubs. For posh, sit down fish and chips (or takeaway) try Olley’s Fish Experience.

Parkrun

There’s a parkrun every Saturday at 9am starting near the Lido.

The Lido is a 50m outdoor swimming pool with attached gym. Be warned, the pool is not heated and can be used all year. Opening hours –

Monday – Friday – 6am to 10pm

Sat & Sunday – 7.30am to 9pm

Other amenities in Brockwell Park include tennis courts, a bowling green, a BMX track and a miniature railway.
